Our mission is to demonstrate exceptional prowess in innovating synthetic methodologies, inclusive of asymmetric catalysis, design and synthesis of pioneering organocatalysts, and investigation of unique chemical transformations. For instance, we have developed innovative asymmetric catalytic systems predicated on organosulfur, organoselenium, and oxathiaborolium elements.
We engage in the total synthesis of complex natural products comprising terpenoids, alkaloids, and diterpenes. We regularly employ biomimetic strategies in our syntheses, which aim to replicate nature’s synthetic pathways.
Our research extends to drug discovery, with the objective of identifying potential new drug leads via chemical synthesis and biosynthetic investigations. As an example, we have pinpointed potential therapeutics for various conditions such as lung cancer and SARS-CoV-2 infection. These studies often involve collaborative endeavors with biochemists, cell biologists, and clinicians to analyze the biological implications of these synthetically developed compounds.
Our focus also encompasses the biosynthetic pathways responsible for the production of bioactive natural products. Our interest lies in comprehending how nature constructs these compounds at the molecular level. We leverage this knowledge to guide our laboratory in synthesizing these compounds and their analogous structures.
Our group succeeded in synthesizing 100mg of remdesivir with 97% purity in two weeks.
